951 Can't Hold Lead
Friday 31st of March, 2006
The game started with the LA Swans coming out flat and the Raiders immediately took advantage of this. With Deron Lien and Chris Olson leading the way, the Raiders quickly moved the ball down the field, scoring the first two goals of the game. Awakened by the fact that the Swannies were in a dogfight, LA responded with a quarter score of 5.1.31 to the Raiders 2.3.15.
The second quarter began with the Swans looking to build on their first quarter momentum by kicking an early goal. However, that goal would be only one of two in the quarter for the Swans, as the scrappy Raiders defense was able to pressure LA into several miscues. At the half- LA 7.7.49 to the Raiders 4.6.30.
The third quarter, often referred to as the "Premiership Quarter" proved to be the turning point in the match. The Swans emerged from the halftime break all fired up and it showed on the scoreboard. Not to be outdone Rodrick Bush, Manny Barela and the Raiders were able to tally 3 goals and 4 behinds, but that fell short of the LA Swans 7 goals 4 behinds.
The fourth quarter would see the Raiders make a last ditch effort to get back into the game, but it would be enough as the Swans came out victorious.
